Overview

This telephoto zoom lens incorporates Sigma's original OS (Optical Stabilizer) function. It offers the use of shutter speeds approximately 4 stops slower. The minimum focusing distance of 150cm (59.1") throughout the entire zoom range and maximum magnification of 1:4.2 make it useful for close-up photography. Three SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements provide excellent correction for chromatic aberration. This lens is equipped with a rear focus system that minimizes fluctuation of aberration caused by focusing. High image quality is assured throughout the entire zoom range. This lens incorporates HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor), which ensures a quiet and high-speed AF as well as full-time manual focusing capability. It is also possible to attach the optional APO Tele Converters. The lens is equipped with Sigma's own unique OS (Optical Stabilizer) function. This function uses two sensors inside the lens to detect vertical and horizontal movement of the camera and works by moving an optical image stabilizer lens group to effectively compensate for camera shake. It offers the use of shutter speeds approximately 4 stops slower. Mode 1 is ideal for general photography, and Mode 2 is effective on moving subjects such as motor sports etc. *For Pentax and Sony mounts, it is not possible to use the AF and the built-in OS function of this lens when attaching it to film SLR cameras as well as Pentax *ist series and K100D. *When using the OS function of a lens with a camera which incorporates a stabilizer unit, please turn the camera’s stabilizer unit off. *For Nikon and Canon mounts, Optical Stabilizer (OS) function will not work with film SLR cameras except Nikon F6 and Canon EOS-1V. This lens allows photographers to freely play with the ability of telephoto lenses to bring the subject closer and shorten perspective. This lens has a minimum focusing distance of 150cm (59.1") and a maximum magnification of 1:4.2. It is ideal for taking pictures of flowers and insects without disturbing them. The narrow angle of view can be used to emphasize the subject. Three SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements provide the correction for axial chromatic aberration. The super multi-layer coating reduces flare and ghosting. This lens is equipped with a rear focus system that minimizes fluctuation of aberration caused by focusing. High image quality is assured throughout the entire zoom range. This lens incorporates HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor), which ensures a quiet and high-speed AF as well as full-time manual focus override by rotation of the focus ring. *AF will not function if the Sony and Pentax camera bodies do not support HSM. *AF will not function if the Sony and Pentax camera bodies do not support HSM. The addition of the optical 1.4x EX DG APO or 2x EX DG APO Tele Converters produce a 168-560mm F6.3-8 MF ultra-telephoto zoom lens or a 240-800mm F9-11 MF ultra-telephoto zoom lens respectively. *The Pentax mount Tele Converter is not compatible with this particular lens.

Lens technology
DG Lens - These are high-performance lenses optimized for digital cameras. They are ideal not only for 35 mm digital SLR cameras and film SLR cameras but also for APS-C digital SLR cameras. They deliver superior
APO Lens - In order to attain the highest quality images, the APO lens has been made using special low-dispersion (SLD) glass and is designed to minimize color aberration. SIGMA's APO zoom lenses minimizecolor
Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) - HSM lenses are equipped with a motor driven by ultrasonic waves. The motor makes high AF speeds and quiet shooting a reality.
Rear Socus (RF) - This lens is equipped with a system that moves the rear lens group for highspeed , silent focusing. Conventional focusing has normallybeen performed by moving either all lens groups as a fixed
Optical Stabilizer (OS) - This function utilizes a built-in mechanism that compensates for camera shake. It dramatically expands photographic possibilities by alleviating camera movement when shooting by hand
Teleconverter-Compatible Lens (CONV) - The "CONV" mark designates lenses that can be used with the APO Teleconverter EX (sold separately). The teleconverter increases the focal length and interfaces with the AE
